There are four major types of movement involved in the arm: flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction. The flexion brings two body parts closer together, such as the forearm and upper arm. Extension increases the space between two body parts. Abduction refers to moving a body part away from the center of the body, such as lifting the arm out and away from the body. Biceps are the large muscle of the upper arm is formally known as the biceps brachii muscle, and rests on top of the humerus bone. On the other hand, triceps are the large muscle in the back of the upper arm which helps straighten the arm. Brachioradialis is the muscle which helps rotate the forearm both outwardly and inwardly. The deltoid muscle controls the majority of the shoulder’s movements and thus enables the arm to have increased range of motion.
