In brief, the back anatomy includes the latissimus dorsi, trapezius, erector spinae, rhomboid, and the teres major. The latissimus dorsi is the largest and most well-known of all the back muscles. The trapezius muscles are located between the shoulder and neck. Meanwhile, the erector spinae muscles, or spinal erectors, line the spinal column from the lower to the upper back. The rhomboid muscle is located on the upper portion of the back anatomy, underneath the trapezius. They originate from the vertebrae and insert into the scapulae. Triceps brachii is a muscle that straightens the arm. The triceps runs down the back of the upper arm. It straightens or extends, the arm and shoulder.
